About the Event

Childrens' Sunday Arts Oasis at Harkat Studios presents Nal-Jal!


A comedian and his cup full of water take their young audience on a playful journey to discover pictures, sounds and images, all made by water! Surrounded by taps, showers, buckets, pipes and myriad daily objects, the performer and the audience together navigate whirlpools, bubbles, waterfalls, ripples, showers, waves & flows to find that water is one of the most magical & playful elements present.



In the end, as the performer becomes one with the water, he invites the audience to reestablish their primal bond with this enchanting element.

About the performer
Dhanendra Kawade, a performer, comedian, Chhou dancer, art designer & lighting designer par excellence, has been part of the theatre industry for 25 years working with some of the biggest names including Dada Bangeshwar Mullick, Gul Bardhan, B. V. Karanth, Astad Deboo, Rahul da Cunha, Naseeruddin Shah, Makarand Deshpande, Rajit Kapur, Neeraj Kabi, Om Katare, Nadira Babbar, Nandita Das and Alyque Padamsee. He has acted in more than 60 plays, and been responsible for production and light design of several more.
Nal-Jal is the magnificent result of the convergence of his many skills of creating breathtakingly beautiful visuals, evocative images, lighting design, performance and a subtle hint of comedy that keeps the audience curious and on the edge of their seats. He started Swangvale with the idea of immersing artists & audiences into the richness that performing arts can bring & making theatre accessible to everyone.

About the Organizer
Tram Theatre was founded in 2011 in Mumbai, India with the aim of practising and propagating Object Theatre. This form of theatre owes its origins to Puppet Theatre, wherein puppeteers & marionettes started delving deeper into the idea of the ‘lifeless’ telling live stories: to find objects that are more fundamentally ‘dead’ than puppets, and whether stories could be told with such objects. In other words, even an inanimate puppet possesses a certain amount of life as it was created with a purpose, has (more often than not) a unique personality, and so on.
About the Venue
Harkat Studios is an international boutique arts studio based in India with offices in Mumbai, New Delhi and Berlin. They make films, curate experiences and are an alternative performance space that tries to make the world a little better of a place to live in.
