Artist
As a singer, performer, songwriter, and even a mentor at reality shows, Benny Dayal has added many feathers in his cap. It all started with a song in a Rajinikanth starrer and since then, there has been no looking back for him. Whether it is an energy-filled Bollywood song or his band, Funktuation's Indie composition, Benny Dayal really knows how to rock it. It is no surprise that the very talented Benny can sing in 11 different languages- Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, Assamese, Marathi, and even Arabic! And now, by touring along with Mr. A R Rahman, Benny is really proving his versatility. Some of our favourite chartbusters by Benny Dayal are Badtameez Dil (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gaye (Ghajini), Ude Dil Befikre (Befikre), Locha E Ulfat (2 States), Pappu Can't Dance Sala (Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa), and Bang Bang (Bang Bang)
A band that set the tone for many future artists of the Indian independent music scene, Indian Ocean is one of the pioneering acts in the country. Formed in 1990, the band’s music blends experimental grooves with Indian ragas, complementing it with seamless bass lines, intricate guitar solos, creating a sound that resonates with world music. But their music is just one part of their act. The band writes its own lyrics, using Hindi, as well as borrowing from many local dialects and folk melodies. Their songs sit under themes like spiritualism, activism, environmentalism, the futility of war and mythology, and hence percolated into films Kandisa (2002), Desert Rain (1997), and Leaving Home (2010). The first Indian band to be on the cover of the Rolling Stone India magazine, they have also composed music for movies like Black Friday (2007), Peepli Live (2010), and Masaan (2015).
Can one ever get enough of Parvaaz’s music? Never. The Bangalore-based band plays a mix of acoustic and sufi-rock music, and features Khalid Ahamed on vocals, Mir KashifIqbal on guitars, Fidel D'Souza on the bass and SachinBanandur on drums and percussions. Formed in early 2010 by Kashif, Khalid and Neil, the band went through a few line-up changes to reach its current one (and their current sound), and released its debut EP Behosh in 2013. The band went one to release more singles, like “KhufiyaDastaan”, and their second record, Baran in 2014. After playing at all imaginable venues and festivals in India, and becoming one of the most in-demand acts in the country, the band is currently touring Northern America.
A band that has never shied away from talking about a veritable smorgasbord of issues, from taking a dig at the 24x7, sensationalist media hype or from leading a tirade against consumerist establishments, fusion band Swarathma is known for its rustic, hard-hitting melodies and songs. The Bangalore based act is known for its electric performances, gripping audiences instantly with its hooky vocal melodies, a plethora of instruments and enthralling song structures. Featuring Vasu Dixit, Pavan Kumar KJ, Varun Murali, Sanjeev Nayak, Jishnu Dasgupta and Joel Milan Baptist, their first self-titled album came out in 2009, and was followed by the highly acclaimed Topiwalleh (2012) that completely redefined their sound. With several international tours, and TV appearances, they are one of India's most sought after indie live act.
A Simple breakfast. A simple melody. When Chai Met Toast takes inspiration from the lighter side of life to create music that is heart-warming, happy and smile-worthy. Formed in Kochi, the band has won many hearts with their special acoustic setup and a unique brand of infectious happy music, which transcends age, genre and even language. They make their classic tracks with Acoustic folk and Indie rock tunes, with a touch of Hindi, English and Tamil blending in soothingly. They have performed across the country, including festivals ranging from the most popular NH7 weekender and Red Bull Tour Bus too. Your ‘Khoj’ for a wonderful concert experience ends here, catch them live in your city!
