Handmade pixel letters with Matra Type

Join Pooja Saxena aka Matra Type (@matratype) for an afternoon of 👾 pixel type 👾 that is perfect for the designer or student with a passion for typography. We’ll hang out at the lovely new Underline Center, and learn about how pixel letters live in everything from textiles to arcade games, and then get our hands dirty making them ourselves. 

What to Expect

📚 Show & Tell: An opportunity to spend time with books and artefacts from Pooja’s wide-ranging collections, as she will talk you through their history, what’s fascinating about them, and how they can expand the ways we view design and typography.

🔠 Exploring & Designing Pixel Letters: Get ready to play with stickers, paper weaving and most of all, LEGO letterpress, as we delve into the hows and whys of what makes well-designed letterforms, using nothing but little pixels.

💬 Conversations & Snacks: We’ll end the afternoon with nibbles and informal conversations about all things typographic. Meet fellow typophiles, and ask Pooja your most pressing questions about typefaces, how they are made and how to use them.

Pooja Saxena aka Matra Type is an award-winning typeface designer, lettering artist and typographer, known for her design and research in Indic scripts. Along with crafting multi-script letterforms, she documents street lettering, collects ephemera and writes about local design and typographic curiosities.
