Rather than being in conflict, they are often seen as complimentary concepts. Because of this, the gods are mostly depicted as superhumanly beautiful; if the image was not beautiful, deities could not be expected to inhabit it. Similarly, women in our ancient culture were associated not with temptation, but with fertility, abundance and prosperity. Sexuality was openly embraced as the route to divinity. It is this integral relationship between the sensual and the spiritual in Indian art that has always challenged western ideals and baffled artists and viewers alike. Know your Experience Leader- Jyoti

Jyoti, at India Curated, is an intuitive painter, an amateur poet and a photographer. Art, whether visual or performing has always been her passion. She is an avid traveler and has visited and engaged with arts and artefacts in museums around the world. These encounters emboldened her aesthetic hunger and led her to take up a formal postgraduate degree in Art History and Visual Art from Panjab University. She is now pursuing her masters in Women Studies from University of Panjab.
