Books in the age of Kindle.
Print is dying. Digital is surging. Has technology successfully bridged the gap?
Hosted by Subodh Shankar (co-founder of Atta Galata)
“My eyes tire more easily, they say. The batteries run out, the screen is tough to read in sunlight. It doesn’t like bathtubs.”
Are Kindles/iPads/Nooks really doing well? Maybe not. Is this something to mourn or to celebrate; a triumph of bibliophilia over the new technology or the loss of an opportunity to promote reading. As clumsy as the technology is, it is indeed helpful in different situations.
Many believe that books have an aesthetic quality, that they are more than the sum of their contents. That an avid reader collects them and holds all books dear. Classics continue to sell in handsomely bound volumes and demand for signed copies is unquenchable.
Can we say that literature survives on its own terms in this technological age? Or will technology bridge the gap sooner than later?
Hosted by Subodh Shankar, co-founder of Atta Galatta.
