About Sondai Fort Trek

Sondai is not such a famous fort near Karjat Chowk Phata. Sondai Fort Trek is nine kilometers from Karjat railway station. It offers a beautiful view of Morbe Dam, Prabalgad, Irshalgad, Rajmachi, Songiri forts, Karnala Fort, and Matheran mountain range. Sondai Fort Karjat was used as a watchtower to protect the trade routes. Sondewadi and Wavarle are the base villages of Sondai fort. Sondewadi village is situated at 1/4th height of this Fort.

There are two water cisterns on, and steps are carved out of rocks to go on the topmost point where an idol of Sondai Devi stands. Two more water cisterns are on the way and have potable water. Waverle is another village from where a bit difficult approach to the fort passes through the dense forest. Sondai trek, an iron ladder, has been installed. It has made the climb till the summit to seak the blessing of Sondai Devi temple safer for all the hikers and devotees.

Sondai Trek Event Itinerary

By Bus Option

Day One

05:00 am - Meet at Borivali National Park main gate.

05:15 am - Leave for the trek.

05:20 am – Pick up at Virwani Bus Stop, Goregaon.

05:30 am - Pick up at Gundavali Bus Stop, Andheri East.

05:40 am - Pick up at Kalanagar bus stop, Bandra.

05:40 am - Pick up at Everard Nagar bus stop, Sion.

06:00 am - Pick up at Diamond Garden, Chembur.

06:25 am - Pick up at Vashi Plaza.

06:55 am - Pick up at McDonald's, Kalamboli.

07:30 am: Arrive at the Sondai Fort trek start point and begin the Sondai trek. Enjoy the scenic views of the Morbe Dam and Matheran range and experience the thrill of trekking. Have a breakfast.

08:00 am: Sondai Fort trekking begins; we will take regular halts for refreshments. 

09:30 am: Reach the top of Sondai Fort and explore the historical ruins, temples, caves, water cisterns and panoramic vistas. Capture memorable photographs.

10:15 am: Start descending from Sondai Fort and return to the Sondai Fort trek start point.

While descending, click pictures with the fantastic Morbe Dam background. In the background, you can see many forts, like Karnala Fort and Irshalgad Fort. 

Many famous hiking routes in the Matheran hills range from One tree hill and Garbett Point Trek.

11:45 pm: Reach the base village and conclude the Sondai Fort trek.

12:30 pm: Begin the return journey to Mumbai.

On the way will halt at the restaurant and have a delicious lunch at a local eatery (lunch expense on your own).

05:00 pm: Approx. arrival at Mumbai.

Please wear trekking shoes with a good grip for this trek.

People may board the same train from their respective stations of convenience.

Missing the train is missing Sondai Trek, no refund will be provided.

Please be 10 minutes before your pick-up point.

For direct people, the base village location is Sondewadi and the meeting point is Purva Pan Shop. Note: No pick up will be provided from Purva Pan shop for people coming till Purva. You need to reach Sondewadi on your own.

If you wrongly booked for a different date or batch. If you want to change the date within 3 days of departure, then transfer charges will be applied which will be Rs. 200/- per person.

This itinerary is just a proposal we will try to match it, and there can be delays due to road traffic, bus breakdowns, road conditions, weather, group trekking speed, rush at the trekking destination, and many unforeseen situations; trekkers are requested to keep a time buffer to accommodate delays due to unseen problems.
