This is the first public screening in India of four powerful docu-animations from Myanmar released under the title "Stand Up for Women! Stand Up for Peace!"

This project is initiated by Yangon Film School, Myanmar in collaboration with mentors Debjani Mukherjee and Paromita Vohra from India.

Violence against women is prevalent throughout Myanmar - including areas affected by the present day political conflict. The four short docu-animations aim to give a voice to the heart-breaking stories of women and girls who have been victims of gender-based violence, especially rape as a war weapon.

Combining documentary voices with animation, these powerful short films help audiences to understand that gender-based violence is not a private affair but a matter of social concern and that peace and security are essential in order to create a society in which women’s lives are respected and protected.

This screening has graciously been made possible by the Goethe Institute Mumbai.
