Eco - Weekend at Courtyard Koota kicks off with an art and book exhibit on Hummingbirds, by Sangeetha and Vydehi Kadur, on 14th and 15th September, from 10 am to 8 pm.
As a part of the exhibition we have organised two talks related to the topic.
On the 15th September we have Ulhas Anand discussing "Sunbirds and Urban Ecology". The Sunbird is commonly found in India and is the closest species to the Hummingbirds.
Bangalore has the unique advantage of being geographically located between the Western and the Eastern Ghats and is home to a rich diversity of wildlife in the urban context.
This talk will introduce the urban ecology of Bangalore and showcase some standout denizens of our city, their habitats, the best places to see them, the tools needed to watch them, and how one could contribute observations to science. The talk will also segue to focus on Sunbirds, which play the role of Hummingbirds in the Old World.
We will look at simple projects that can help us understand life around us better and attempt to develop an appreciation towards them. It will also briefly touch upon the changing environment of the city, memories of what used to be, and what one can do to preserve what we have.
Ulhas Anand
co-founder @ ecoedu
Ulhas Anand has been associated with birdwatching, wildlife and the environment for around 30 years, starting out as a birdwatcher and a naturalist. His primary interest has been in building awareness and sensitizing people towards the outdoors – conducting numerous nature camps, talks, walks, and workshops for schools, colleges, and corporates.
Along with his interest in wildlife, he's worked with multiple product companies over the last 20 years designing and building usable software and real-world products. This combined interest in design and nature has led to a dialogue around sustainable redesign and a series of workshops on 'Nature Inspired Design Thinking' that he currently runs for product and design folks.
He currently heads the Product Management team at Tyfone Inc. and has done his Post-Graduation in Marketing from the University of Wales, UK.
