Artist Bio
Shalini Mithal, a fibre art facilitator and practitioner, embarked on a conscious journey into the world of fibre arts in 2018. Transitioning from class room teaching to hosting workshops in crochet, macrame and embroidery marked the beginning of her exploration. Founding Knots and Crosses, she aimed to build a supportive community for fibre art enthusiasts. The onset of Covid year affirmed her belief in the therapeutic nature of art, especially handwork, as she witnessed individuals finding solace in its repetitive meditative motions.
Driven by curiosity and a thirst for growth, Shalini delves into different techniques and materials, including free form crochet, micro/macro macrame and embroidery on paper. Her latest venture involves combining paper twine with fibre art techniques, expanding her artistic horizons further. Her paper twine macrame installation at ‘On Paper Of Paper’ exhibition, curated by origami artist Ankon Mitra, which was a part of the India Design 2024 expo, was much appreciated.
