Modern, Experimental Jazz Fusion trio "The Bodhisattwa Trio" (Kolkata) will present their 3rd performance of 2018 at "The B-Flat Bar", on the Bangalore leg of their All-India tour this Friday 25th May, 2018.
The band will, perform rearranged material from their 2nd album "Heart of Darkness", as well as new compositions which will be featured in their upcoming 3rd album. Depicting a unique mix of jazz, funk, drum-n-bass, Indian classical music, rock and blues, the trio delivers a sound that crosses the barriers of genres, with special emphasis on harmonic and rhythmic expansion, expressionism, theme and variation, virtuosity and spontaneous improvisation.
Their music is intelligent, avant-garde and cutting edge.
The excellence displayed by all 3 musicians is a mark of the fact that Kolkata, which is the birthplace of jazz in India, sets the bar real high and continues to make a mark in the Indian jazz scene.
Bodhisattwa Ghosh, guitarist and front-man of the Trio is a highly accomplished, prolific musician with excellent composition skills. A disciple of Indian Guitar legend Amyt Datta, Bodhisattwa is a musician who is constantly looking to stretch the boundaries of music. An endorsee of Fender Guitars,USA and Ernie Ball Guitar Strings, USA ,he has worked as a guitar player/composer since 2002 and played in major venues/festivals across the globe.

A disciple of Indian Guitar legend Amyt Datta, Bodhisattwa is a musician who is constantly looking to stretch the boundaries of music.
An endorsee of Fender Guitars,USA and Ernie Ball Guitar Strings, USA ,he has worked as a guitar player/composer since 2002 and played in major venues/festivals across the globe including National Theatre,Oslo (Norway), San Jose Mc Enery Convention Centre (USA), Bird's Eye Jazz Club, Basel (Switzerland), Blue Frog, Mumbai (India), Ravi Shankar Institute of Performing Arts, New Delhi (India),Goethe Institute (Kolkata), High Spirits (Pune), B-Flat (Bangalore), Russian Cultural Centre (Dhaka), Red Shift(Dhaka), EMK center(Dhaka), Jatra Biroti (Dhaka), USIS(Kolkata), The Piano Man(Delhi) etc. to name a few and collaborated with reputed musicians from around the world.
Apart from his instrumental Jazz Rock Trio "The Bodhisattwa Trio" with whom he has 2 albums "Heart of Darkness" and "Intersections" ,Bodhisattwa is currently a part of critically acclaimed Ethno-Jazz outfit “Kendraka”, veteran vernacular Rock band "Lakkhichhara"and Grammy Award winning Tabla Player Pt.Tanmoy Bose's World Music outfit "Taal Tantra".
Premjit Dutta ( Drums & Percussion )
Premjit Dutta is a percussionist from Kolkata, India, trained in theory of music Grade 5 (ABRSM) and is a certified Grade 8 (TCL) Drummer. He has been teaching Drums at Calcutta School of Music (CSM) since 2008, Calcutta Centre for Communication and Creativity (C4) since 2007 and also works as a music educator/mentor throughout institutes in India and is also a regular artist at All India Radio.
Studying Latin American music from veteran conguero Monojit Datta, he has been an integral part of Latin-Jazz band LOS AMIGOS with whom he performed across the country and abroad at distinguished festivals and venues including the prestigious Java Jazz Fest 2011.
He is also an endorsee of SONOR drums, VIC FIRTH sticks and REMO heads. He is also a part of one of India’s most sought after Latin-jazz outfits THE LATINATION. In 2016, he was selected as one of the ten international talents all over the world and the only Indian musician invited by the MUSIC BOARD BERLIN and POP-KULTUR FESTIVAL’2016, to participate in their seminar and festival in August-September ‘16 at Berlin, where he attended workshops and talks and also collaborated, recorded and performed with musicians from around the world.
Aunava Chatterjee (Keyboards & Synth Bass)
Known as Shonai to all his fellow musicians, Arunava Chatterjee is a pianist who enjoys his musical life as a performer, educator, composer and arranger. In his 20 years of performance life he has worked as a solo, duet, in bands and Big Band. Shonai being predominantly a contemporary and jazz Pianist has worked with several Jazz artists in India. Shonai has worked in Oberoi Grand Hotel, ITC Sonar, The Park Plaza and The Park Hotel under contracts. He has performed in all leading clubs and pubs in Kolkata, Taj Tashi in Bhutan and Dhakka Club in Bangladesh. In Nepal he did a series of gigs including the Jazz festival of Kathmandu. Shonai has travelled all over India and performed in Rajasthan, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Jamshedpur, Nagpur, Bangalore, Assam, Manipur, Trivandrum. Festivals he has taken part are JAZZMATAZZ in Mumbai and Pune, JAZZMANDU in Nepal, BIG SUNDAY in Kolkata, Darjeeling Carnival. Currently he is working on his Trio called The Shonai Collective and collaborating with various artists and touring the country. With this Collective he mostly does his own compositions and a few covers arranged in his own way.
