Sukanya and Tejas invite you to their homes for an intimate baithak and dinner. In an effort to bring classical music closer to people, and to encourage artists in their imaginative pursuits, they are opening up their living room for monthly classical concerts.
Join in and explore the intricacies of classical music together, and sometimes simply lose yourself to the flow of the music. The living room is cozy, and has just enough space for everyone to be able to enjoy the music and compare notes with each other from time to time. Feel free to ask questions and express your pleasure as the artist takes you on his journey.
The artist of the month, Shri Susmit Sil, is an extraordinary, young sarod player. Born into a family of musicians, he was initiated in the realm of classical music by his father, Shri Kalyan Sil at a tender age. While he received his initial training from the eminent sarodists Pt. Biswajit Roy Choudhury and Shri Pramod Shankar, he has honed his skills under the watchful eyes of Pandit Sunil Mukherjee.
On tabla, he will be accompanied by Shri Pradeep Chatterjee. Shri Chatterjee began his music education at the age of seven under his father late Pandit Amalesh Chatterjee, renowned percussionist of Farukhabad Gharana, and later under guidance of his father's senior-most disciple, Pandit Samir Chatterjee. A familiar face at their concerts (many would recognize him and his extraordinary performance from the first baithak), he continues to spur everyone on with his constant support.

Absolutely not! Anybody who appreciates music and is willing to listen, is welcome to the concert. The aim is to make the genre more accessible to everyone and share the love for it. During the course of the concert, they will be happy to help you understand and appreciate the performance.
What is the format of the program?
Keeping in mind the homely atmosphere, they invite only one artist per program. This way, the performer of the day has complete freedom to choose her pieces and improvize. The program will start with a short introduction to the artist and the genre. This will be followed by an hour long performance and dinner.
How long will the performance last?
Indian classical music is largely performed extempore, based only on a loose structure that helps the artist lay out his/her path. You can expect the performance to last about an hour, give or take a few minutes, as inspiration permits.
What kind of food would be served for dinner?
The hosts would love to share a little piece of their home with you. All food served at the event will be cooked by them from scratch, so expect a hearty home-made meal. In order to accommodate everyone and their tastes, they will only be serving vegetarian food - typically two mains and a side dish.
