The exhibition, ‘The Future is Here’ is the first of its kind that examines the millennial experience of nine Indian digital native artists. These artists, known as GenY have come of age with the computer, the internet and cell phones and have technology wired into their DNA. With the proliferation of smart-phones, voice recognition AI systems like Alexa and Siri, Bitcoin, Tinder, Netflix, Amazon, etc, one is able to do any task virtually – effortlessly. The exhibition, however, goes further to uniquely focus on the Indian millennial, who witnessed India’s role and contribution in the tech boom globally.

Each project while highlighting the use of technology, addresses its abusive entrapments that include the isolation felt by individuals in a digital world, amidst online avatars in a selfie culture. Games such as the Blue Whale Challenge drive the youth to self-harm and even suicide. And devices such as Alexa and OkGoogle eavesdrop -- leaving us in a constant state of paranoia and anxiety. The virtual technologies have attached themselves to live in us, like a specter, leaving not only digital imprints within the cyber worlds but carbon footprints, that will impact us for years to come. The exhibition presents an encounter with digital technology, because ‘The Future is Here’ and we need to heed it with serious consideration.
