The Sari School – Draping Workshop by Rta Kapur Chishti
If you think the sari is just another traditional, old fashioned garment with little room to experiment, think again! The sari was designed to adapt. In fact, it didn’t even have a blouse or petticoat until a few 100 years ago!
Rta Kapur Chishti’s famed Sari School is in back in town and it is time to look beyond the Nivi drape, the saree as it is popularly worn. ‘The Sari School’, a comprehensive workshop exploring regional wearing styles, will be conducted by the grand lady of textiles as she shows you how to drape your sari in four unique styles that you can use everyday.
“The sari can become a pair of shorts, pants or pantaloons, a dress or even a gown, but more than that it is capable of reinvention in its draped form to become innumerable, untitled garments with the magic of recreating in form and shape.”
