About the Event
ABOUT THE URBAN SOLACE BOOK LOVERS' CLUB
The Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club began in 2010, sparked by a gathering of writers featured in Chicken Soup for the Indian Teacher’s Soul. Inspired by that shared energy, the Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club was born and has since grown steadily, meeting monthly on the second Sunday. Over the years, the club has hosted over 50 published authors from Bangalore, across India, and around the world, who have joined to share their literary journeys.
Today The Urban Solace Book Lovers' Club has a loyal community and a sterling reputation as the longest running book club in the city in a café setting, sought after by writers from across the country.
ABOUT THE BOOK: Slaughterhouse-Five By Kurt Vonnegut
Slaughterhouse-Five, or, The Children's Crusade: A Duty-Dance with Death is a 1969 semi-autobiographical, science fiction-infused anti-war novel by Kurt Vonnegut. It follows the life of Billy Pilgrim, from his early years to his time as a chaplain’s assistant during World War II, and into his post-war life. Throughout the novel, Billy travels back and forth in time, navigating a temporal crisis rooted in his psychological trauma.
The novel centres on his capture by the German Army and survival of the Allied firebombing of Dresden, which Vonnegut himself endured. The work is considered a landmark anti-war novel, known for its “unmatched moral clarity” and enduring legacy.
