To Da Bone, a groundbreaking performance by La Horde and the Ballet National de Marseille, that delves into the intimate revolts of youth and the transformative power of movement.

Set in a world where revolutions ignite at night and laws are voted by day, To Da Bone explores the new forms rebellion can take in the age of social media. Drawing inspiration from the Hardstyle movement and “post-internet” dance forms, the performance highlights dynamic styles such as Jumpstyle, Tekstyle, Shuffle, and Hakken.

The performance is followed by a set by DJ Avantika.

The Conception:

Jumpstyle, in particular, takes center stage as a highly intense, physically demanding dance. With sequences lasting approximately 25 seconds, Jumpstyle embodies a release of energy, frustration, and defiance, creating a powerful visual and emotional experience. Often beginning as a private practice filmed in bedrooms and shared online, Jumpstyle grows into a communal art form through virtual battles, real-world meetups, and collective performances in public spaces.

To Da Bone not only brings these electrifying styles to the stage but also reflects on the role of social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook in mobilizing crowds and creating opposition movements. This unique work bridges the virtual and physical, capturing the journey of dance from individual expression to a collective act of rebellion.

Choreographed by La Horde, known for their innovative and bold explorations of contemporary dance, To Da Bone pushes the boundaries of performance art by fusing urban culture with high-energy choreography. The collaboration with the Ballet National de Marseille enhances this dynamic production, delivering an electrifying and thought-provoking experience.

About La Horde:

(LA)HORDE is a collective that was founded in 2013 by the three artists Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer and Arthur Harel. Together they question codes of various artistic disciplines, especially contemporary live art and performing arts. At the head of the Ballet National de Marseille since September 2019, they have created choreographic works, films, video installations and performances, that always evolve around the body in movement.

From the interaction and the juxtaposition of these different media, they develop scenarios and actions that take up

radically contemporary themes and questions. (LA)HORDE collaborates with communities of individuals on the margins of the mainstream, and part of their art is also the practice of practical solidarity. They have worked with groups of seventy-year-olds, blind performers, smokers, juveniles… Contrary to any form of hierarchy and cultural appropriation, they work at eye level with the performers.

At the centre of their work is the body. (LA)HORDE create works from their encounters with various online communities and thus also investigates what has happened to dance since the advent of the Internet. This is a theme that (LA)HORDE is very passionate about and so they define their work as work on “post-Internet dance».
