Turtle festival is an attempt to save the endangered species of Olive Ridley turtles.Mother turtles lay their eggs in the month of Nov to Jan. These eggs used to be source of food for stray dogs, Crows and Other birds. Some villagers used to consume these eggs as they had misconception about its so called medicinal properties. These all scenarios resulted in decrease in population of olive ridley sea turtles. Turtle festival has resulted in awareness about the endangered species among the villagers.
