We are about to step into the new year. But before we do that, it’s important that we remember where we come from. So allow us to take you back a few years: to the 2016 sequel of the movie ‘Rock On.’ In the movie, Kedar Zaveri (Purab Kohli) enquires rather excitedly about the lead singer of Vayu. Now that's a scene many young adults replayed many times. These were mostly engineers, doctors, and business professionals from India who were born in the '80s and raised on indie rock. Why did they replay the scene? Because that lead singer is someone they grew up knowing as Tirthankar Poddar, or mononymously as 2Blue, the man who quit his job to headline their college festival.

2Blue has been described as a blend of Jon Bon Jovi and Robin Sharma. With a four-octave vocal range and a shamanic persona that borrows from science, art, and spirituality, he has earned a reputation for the metamorphic experiences he creates. So when Bumblefoot of Guns N' Roses came to India, it was 2Blue he performed with. As did Paul Di'Anno of Iron Maiden, George Lynch of Dokken, and Jonas Hellborg of Mahavishnu Orchestra. Other accolades? 'Best Band' at Hungama, India and 'Song Of The Year' at AVIMA, Asia. But his most significant career milestone was playing Judas in 'Jesus Christ Superstar.' The role was demanding but 2Blue was in very capable hands. These were the hands of Shiamak Davar, Sabira Merchant, and Alyque Padamsee. In the words of these legends, "2Blue is an attitude. He is a muscular statement like a raised fist."

2Blue is currently prepping for his performance at Hard Rock Cafe Hitech City on the biggest night of the year, December 31. For Indian engineers, doctors, and business professionals who were born in the '80s and raised on indie rock, it's emotional. Because this is the artist they laughed and cried with when they were young. This is who they connected with on MySpace and Orkut when they needed a friend. And over the years, this is who they grew old with: the lead singer of Vayu who went solo, the man who quit his job to headline their college festival. On the night of December 31, chances are they will carry their little ones on their shoulders and wait back for a selfie. Chances are they will then see Purab Kohli and some of the other familiar faces from 'Rock On.' And chances are they will unbox the new year with a happy tear remembering the journey that has brought them this far.
