About the Event

Love adventure, history and nature? Trek out to Visapur Fort! Situated at an altitude of 1,084 metres above sea level, the route to the fort is covered in lush greenery and captivates you with a mesmerizing view. The waterfalls flow in all their glory and the forest is at its greenest during the monsoon, so it's the best time to visit the fort. You can also enjoy an early morning trek surrounded by a cool, magical mist that you will only find during the rains. A favourite with regular trekkers, Visapur brims with rich historical and cultural significance. With so much to see and do, the trek is sure to leave you absolutely fascinated.

The Visapur Fort Trek ranges from easy to medium level and is a great trek for both beginners and seasoned trekkers. Your trek will start at Bhaje Village and it will take about 2.5 to 3 hours to get to the top. There are two route that can be followed to reach your destination – the easier one that starts at Lohagadwadi Village, and the trickier one from Patan Village. The locals are your best guides to finding the start points and showing you the paths to follow.
The best part about the trek is the variety of terrains you will encounter while you are on your way. The climb will be rocky in places and flat a little down the line. Some areas are open grasslands while others wind through dense forest. But with a well-defined path you won’t lose your way and will find your way all the way to the top quite easily. There are even arrows placed at strategic locations to guide you along the way.

Visapur Fort was built between 1713CE & 1720CE by the first and one of the greatest Peshwas of the Maratha Empire, Balaji Vishwanath. Visapur Fort was a stronghold of the Maratha empire for almost a 100 years. On the 4th March 1818, the British with a large army of both local and European soldiers armed with cannons, invaded the fort. The British had suspected that the fort was used to store a sizable chunk of the Maratha wealth, but their initial efforts to conquer it were in vain. Summoning two additional battalions of troops, the Raj finally managed to defeat the resident forces and take control of this majestic structure.

Each person should carry at least two litres of water for the trek.
Pack some snacks along with you as it will be a long journey.
Wear shoes with an excellent grip during and be especially cautious during the monsoons.
Carry a cap as it can get very sunny during the day.
Wear light cotton clothes.
Look out for slippery, mossy rocks.
Carry a light first aid kit and any medications that you might require during the day.
You’ll see a lot of interesting insects along the way but carry some repellent to protect you from those that bite.
