But first - what exactly is World Music Day?
Its actually the day of the summer solstice - also known as the longest day of the year. That is, in terms of total hours of daylight (not in terms of how bad your workday is). The upshot? The further away from the equator you are, the more sunlight you see (so yes, hello to all Alaskan Insider fans - you'll have ~24 hours of sun!). France first started the idea of celebrating the day as a day of public music performances, and in 1982, World Music Day was born. Of course, 'World' truly took meaning as 120 more countries adopted it. It's celebrated on 21 June.
Now with the facts out of the way...
Hard Rock Cafe knows a thing or three about music - the iconic venue has hosted some of India's (the world's!) biggeest artists and you will be hard-pressed to find a live music fan in the country whose top 10 gigs does not feature an HRC show. For the third year running, The World Music Day Festival will bring together some of the country's top acts across fusion, electronica, rock and Indipop, across five cities.
So who's playing this time?
Glad you asked. This year, the three-day fest will be held in HRCs in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi and Gurgaon. Taking to stage will be Euphoria, Raghu Dixit Project, Rabbi Shergill, Kabir Cafe, Hari+Sukhmani, Anand Bhaskar Collective, Sifar, Best Kept Secret (formerly known as One Nite Stand), DJ Teri Miko, DJ Paroma, Alteregoz, EKA, Delhi Indie Project and No Band Men.
If you'd like to sample some of their music first, Insider's put together a handy-dandy playlist here.
