In this workshop, we will be looking at the views of Varanasi, Bengal and other parts of North India through the brushstrokes of Sita Ram. A prominent artist from 19th century British India. In addition to it, we will be leading about his legacy as an artist employed by the Hastings family, and get a glimpse of the influence of the Picturesque movement in British art, on Indian landscape painting tradition. Moreover, the workshop sheds light on Sita Ram's style and subject matter and the role art plays in the documentation of Indian heritage and culture.

This Workshop is hosted by Juhi Mathur. She is an artist by choice and an art historian by profession. She has an insatiable thirst to learn about human experience in every form possible, be it cultural, societal, or historical.

As an artist, she has looked at the act of creation of any artwork as a way of inner expression with rich narratives at play. She says she will try to bring the more nuanced sensibility to my practice as a writer on art, taking a more interdisciplinary take on art practices in India. Making learning an immersive experience for art and history aficionados everywhere!
