Chats and interactive visits with a textile design expert and local artisans nurture our understanding of the various weaving and printing techniques and historical context as it shapes India’s contemporary textile culture. We are a large group, what is the maximum group size possible?
A maximum of 8 people can go at one time. Breakaway do not want to compromise on the quality of the experience for guests and hence like to restrict the group size to 8 at best.
Will we get vegetarian food?
Yes, Breakaway can cater to vegetarians as well. Please do mention during booking or before travelling for the same.
This is my first trip to Hyderabad. Can I stay back a few days and can you help me plan this time better?

Your flight into Hyderabad will bring you in bright and early, and you drive straight to your hotel, a quick check in, and you’re ready to start your day.
You meet your facilitator at the hotel and head out to begin your soiree with textiles. Head to meet Sudha Rani, the force behind Abhihaara - a social enterprise that works with cotton farmers, handloom weavers, other craft artisans and garment makers in its mission to nurture and empower them to sustain craft based rural and urban livelihoods in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Meet Suraiya Hasan, or Suraiya Apa as she is fondly called - a bundle of energy as she flits of himroo weaving.
Suraiya Hasan has been credited with single-handedly reviving Persian brocades, most significantly the Mashru, Himroo, Jamavar and Paithani. One of the most popular attractions of the state, the sound and light show at Golconda Fort, which narrates the story behind the fort is a fine treat to the eyes and a must visit.
Day 2
Start your morning today with a visit to the DAMA store. An interaction with Latha, at DAMA getting familiar with the natural dyed textiles woven by the clusters under this cooperative is an enriching experience.
Then head out to the Malkha workshop for an interaction with Uzramma, the force behind Malkha.. Malkha stands for a decentralized, sustainable, field-to-fabric cotton textile chain, collectively owned and managed by the primary producers – the farmers, the ginners, the spinners, the dyers and the weavers.
Leave to meet Mamta Reddy, a hand painted Kalamkari textile designer. Her hand painted textile venture was founded to revive the dying art of hand-painted Kalamkari using natural dyes. The line up of exquisite sarees and dupattas have carved a niche for themselves.
A quick stop at the Creative Bee Studio to shop for some exquisite textiles and a chat with the textile designer if she is in town.
Day 3
Renowned for its handlooms, Andhra Pradesh is most famous for its Pochampally Ikat style of saris and textiles adorned with delicate and distinctive designs. Each saree flaunts an intricate 'pallu' and an ornate border adorned with gold thread work and geometric patterns. Today, you visit the Pochampally Handloom Park where you can the watch the exquisite Pochampally Ikat sarees come to life and marvel at the intricate craftsmanship of the weavers.
The Jagdish and Kamla Mittal Museum of Indian Art, Hyderabad. It specializes in the traditional arts and crafts produced in the Indian subcontinent between the 1st century BC and 1900 A.D.
Drive back into the city and after a quick stop over at the hotel, for a refresh, head out to Falaknuma for high tea/dinner and a guided tour around the property, one which has many stories to share. The Palace Library, a replica of the one at Windsor Castle, is a collector's envy as it is home to the rarest of manuscripts, books and one of the most acclaimed collections of the Holy Quran in the country, all of which were selected and brought back by the Nizam himself.
Day 4
This morning, you have an early breakfast and leave your bags with the concierge, and check out of your hotel.
Visit the Chowmahala Palace - the city's hot-spot for various cultural happenings and regular art shows and book readings. A curated walk around the textile gallery of Chowmahala Palace which showcases the garments and textiles used by the Nizams and their families.
A visit to the magnificent Charminar, a massive, iconic gateway built in 1591 AD by the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty provides evidence of Persian influences and Mughal architecture of the bygone era. Laad Bazaar, one of city’s oldest market is famous for its bangles. Laad meaning lacquer is used to make bangles, on which semi-precious stones are beautifully studded. The market also sells saris, perfumes, pearls and other wedding related items. Browsing around this market and watching glitter come to life, head back into the city.
Post lunch you have time to browse around some stores, for some more retail therapy. As the evening approaches, it will be time for you to head to the airport for your flight back home.
