Learn about Zero Waste Living while helping us raise funds for waste workers from marginalised communities. 100% of the ticket sales will go towards buying protective wear and ration for waste workers families from marginalised communities near Chandigarh, in Panchkula.
Waste workers are among the most vulnerable groups of front line works during the Pandemic. They risk their lives every single day as they manage our city's waste. Many of them are informal waste workers, not represented by or affiliated with waste worker NGOs, and are impacted adversely.
In 2020, we at Skrap worked with one such group of waste workers in Panchkula district for a zero waste project. We are now raising funds to help support 10 waste worker families from the community we worked with.
How the funds will help:
All funds from the ticket sales will be used to procure protective gear and food kits for the families.
Protective gear will include:
- 2 Pairs of re-usable gloves
- 2 Re-usable masks
- 2 Small bottles of sanitizer
- 4 Handwash soaps (125g each)
- 4 kgs Soap for washing clothes
Food kits will include:
- 1 kg each of masoor daal (lentils), moong daal (lentils), chana, rice flakes, toor daal, sujji/rava, peanuts and salt
- 2 kgs Sugar
- 5 kgs each of potatoes and onions
- 10 kgs each of rice and wheat flour
- 250 gms coffee/tea, chilli powder and haldi
- 1 Ltr cooking oil
About the workshop:
In our workshop we quickly take a look at the global garbage crisis, its human and environmental impacts, and present simple solutions that each of us can adopt to tackle this issue. A key focus of the session is to help rethink our relationship with waste.
We'll also do a demo and discussion around waste segregation, a quick walk through how to start composting and share 10 easy steps to take towards zero waste living along with sharing simple and practical tips.
Who is this workshop for
Our workshop is great for anyone who is keen to learn about zero waste or has recently adopted a zero waste lifestyle. Our workshops are also a good place to connect with like-minded zero waste community members.
About Skrap
Skrap is a social enterprise that helps events, organisations and individuals adopt zero waste practices and sustainability solutions. Our aim is to minimise the amount of waste that ends up in our local landfills, villages and oceans. And instead transform this waste into valuable resources by reusing, recycling and composting.
