“Zine kya hai” is all about exploring, creating, understanding and having fun with zines!
The workshop aims to explore the ethos of a Zine, most commonly a self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images. Circulated in limited circles and usually reproduced using a photocopier, printing press or just paper and pen, Zines frequently draw inspiration from a “do-it-yourself” philosophy, or more commonly recognised “DIY” ethic. The heart of the act of zine-making is rooted in physical interaction between zinester, zine and the reader. The experience of a handling zines in person, turning each page to reveal intimate secrets, funny comics, and poetry, cannot be duplicated online.
We will be starting with understanding what zines are and their importance and relevance. In the time available, we will see examples of zines, talk about the whys and hows, the ideation, production and distribution, engage in making basic individual pieces- along with a collective piece, if possible. Participants and artists are welcome to make a few copies to take back home to look at in retrospect.
The workshop will be conducted by Himanshu S and Aqui Thami of Bombay Underground.
Date: 16th October
Time: 3 to 6 pm
Fee: ₹600 Contribution
