Acting in the Now/ Performing the Future: Aspects of a Transcultural Curatorial Practice in Global Contexts.
An introductory lecture by Dr. Barbara Lutz followed by a hands - on workshop by her and Dr. Christoph Scheurle for theatre-makers and all students of performing arts.
This participatory workshop is on the subject of transcultural approaches to theatre-making and curation. By bringing theatre-makers and students of performing arts together, we hope to understand different cultures not as self-contained, uniform and therefore often contradictory models, but as different, yet interwoven forms of thought and action. Together we can raise the question of what artistic potential and possibilities for action can arise from this practice. It will be facilitated by Berlin-based art mediator Barbara Lutz and professor of film, theatre and media studies Christoph Lutz-Scheurle.
Dr. Barbara Lutz is a cultural scientist and freelance art mediator in Berlin. She has worked for various international projects, cultural institutions and organisations, such as Goethe-Institut, Theatre Lab (Youth) Bengaluru/India and the association Decolonize Berlin. In her work, she deals with concepts and methods of transculturality in the field of exhibition practice and art mediation in the global context, through an educational approach that is critical of discrimination and sensitive to diversity.
Dr. Christoph Scheurle teaches Film, Theatre and Media Studies at the University of Applied Science and Arts in Dortmund/Germany and has been working as actor, director and dramaturg in theatre and film. He has published numerous academic articles on the topic of Art, Film and Theatre as well as on the subject of Arts in Education.
Please Note: Everyone is invited to bring an exercise/ example from their own professional context to work on together and to discuss it.
Duration of the workshop is for 7 hours which includes the 45 minutes break time.
