Every time we think of world music and the sitar, Anoushka Shankar is the first name that comes to our mind. One can never get over listening to the enchanting tunes of ‘Lasya’ and ‘Traces of You’ as they take you back in time, and this is your chance to relive magic live in your city. (If you saw her performance in India 3 years ago, then you know exactly what we’re talking about).
About the album - Love Letters EP
Anoushka Shankar is coming out with her new album ‘Love Letters EP’ this February, and this one showcases a shift in the intimacy and content that we’ve seen from the artist in the past. We will be seeing a reflection of themes that the artist has experienced in the last few years like health issues, heartbreak, and domestic upheaval.
However, Love Letters EP is more than just a collection of songs about heartbreak or loss, as they pull from various points in her lifetime like nostalgia, regret, pain, hope, and mark a quiet metamorphosis for the artist.
About the artist - Anoushka Shankar
Sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar is one of the most well known figures from the field of World Music. Having studied the art since the age of nine, under the guidance of her father and guru, the legend himself Pandit Ravi Shankar - Anoushka Shankar is deeply rooted to Indian Classical Music. Right from her early twenties, she has established herself as one of the leading classical sitarists on the world stage. Few years down the line, she was composing and combining Indian classical music with other genres like flamenco, jazz, electronica and Western classical music.
Coming to accolades, she’s received 6 nominations for the Grammy Awards and has been the youngest, and first female, recipient of a House of Commons Shield from the British House of Parliament in 1999. Some of her hit songs include Traces of You, Lasya, Land of Gold, Voice of the Moon, Pancham Se Gara, and The Sun Won’t Set which have garnered quite the following and become crowd favourites on the internet over the years.
