A 2-day workshop on the aesthetics and craft of sound creation, design and applications.

For: Theatre Practitioners, Musicians, Dancers, Filmmakers, Composers Choreographers, Interdisciplinary Artists (also anyone from any artistic practice or other backgrounds interested to participate)

Workshop on/about: Sonic experiments, listening, awareness, layering, designing, vocal experiments, creating sound with materials, electroacoustic music, Alternative sound in film and theatre

Details of the workshop

1. Experiments, design and application with voice

2. Sound creation from movement using the body

3. Designing of sound for stage productions

4. Live performance sound, fixed media and interpenetrations (layering)

5. Discussion and demonstration on different sources of sound creation

6. Discussion and interactive demonstration on how to work with pitch, timbre, dynamics, texture, drones

7. Introduction to composing with reverberation

8. Introduction to ambient sound and it's applications in film and theatre

9. Listening and awareness

10. Short presentations at the end of second day

About the facilitator: Pratyay Raha

Kolkata-based sound artist and composer interested in field recording, sound arts, soundscape composition, data sonification, electroacoustic composition, film sound, sound of language, virtual acoustics and interdisciplinary performance. Special Interest in developing art-science-technology models (based on sound) to enhance the dialogue and action relating to preservation of natural environments and climate change.

Pratyay is an Indian artist who is interested in the practise of creative arts in an inter-disciplinary direction. Recently, he has completed a master’s in Composition and Creative Music Practice at the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick, Ireland. He wants to delve deep into compositional and technological research exploring newer areas of sound-movement-space-material-interactivity in the coming years. He is also interested in the exploration of performance space and conceptions of performance space to include the audience as part of the creative process. He wants to work in the area of sound arts, electro-acoustic music composition and an interdisciplinary application of musical and acoustic processes.
