Nirupa Rao is a botanical illustrator based in Bangalore, India. Her work is inspired by regular field visits into the wild, and informed by close collaboration with natural scientists to achieve accuracy. In this workshop, she aims to capture the lush biodiveristy associated with both crops - cotton & coffee.

Beginner level workshop. Materials required include: unruled paper, pencils, eraser, sharpeners, pen, watercolours (no acrylic or oil paints) and colour pencils.

RAAGA tells the enduring melody of Cotton and Coffee through the medium of the sensorium. It conjures up all things that we care about most; a sense of community, a search for our identity and a reverence for memory that is held within the material reach of Cotton and Coffee; two subtle, though significant entities of our everyday lives.

Rooted in Sanskrit, literally translating to “colouring, tingeing or dyeing”, RAAGA explores the collections at YALI and ARAKU Coffee. A narrative that reaches from soil to the cosmos to help you understand how we are touched by Cotton and Coffee in ways beyond our imagination, invoking a material memory within us.

Coffee grown in the Araku Valley and Cotton from the Dharwad Plateau form the foundation through which we understand the subtleties of Cotton and Coffee with regard to aroma, texture and fragrance.
