Syed Shamsul Haque’s Bukjhim Ek Bhalobasa
Join us at Kolkata Centre For Creativity for the Aneek Theatre Group's production of "Bukjhim Ek Bhalobasa," a compelling tragic love story set against the backdrop of rural Bangladesh during the decaying years of the Mughal Empire. This production reinvigorates the traditional genre of premakhyan through the masterful pen of Syed Shamsul Haque.
Directed and narrated by Sraman Chatterjee, this performance transcends time with its blend of lyrical prose and poignant music compositions by Subhadeep Guha, featuring both traditional Boyati music elements and contemporary sounds with instruments like Banjo and Guitar. The simplicity of the set design allows Haque’s evocative language to paint vivid images, immersing the audience in a sensuous world of romance and tragedy.
The play unfolds the story of Mansur Boyati and Chand Sultana, whose love story bears parallels to classical Sufi romances but comes alive with unique character dimensions and intense emotional depth. Supported by actors Sarbajit Ghosh and Sohini Chakraborty, with live musical accompaniment from Chakrapani Dev, Sushruta Goswami, Jayanta Saha, and Subhadeep Guha, this two-hour and ten-minute production promises an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Don't miss this exquisite exploration of love, separation, and dignity in the face of destiny. Book your tickets now for 29th June 2024 and witness a narrative tradition that has captivated hearts for centuries at KCC Amphitheatre.
