Bella Ciao Italo - A Coffee Theatre Experience

Join us for an enchanting evening of coffee theatre as we bring to life three captivating short stories by the renowned Italian writer, Italo Calvino. Hosted by Umesh Vyas and supported by Rushabh Tijoriwala, this event promises to be a unique blend of literature, culture, and community.

Italo Calvino (1923-1985) was an Italian writer celebrated for his imaginative and whimsical storytelling. His works often explore themes of fantasy, fable, and allegory, making him one of the most important Italian fiction writers of the 20th century. “Bella Ciao” is an iconic Italian folk song, made popular by Money Heist, that became a symbol of resistance and freedom during World War II. Originally sung by the Italian partisans who fought against the occupying Nazi forces and the Fascist regime, it has since been embraced worldwide as a hymn of resistance and solidarity.

In the rich tradition of Persian culture, coffee houses, known as "qahveh khaneh", have long been vibrant social hubs where people gather to enjoy coffee, exchange ideas, and experience performances. These establishments were not just places to drink coffee but also venues for storytelling, poetry, and theatrical performances, fostering a sense of community and cultural exchange.
