‘Navigating India’s Heritage: A Journey through conservation’

Join us for an educative and engaging lecture on Conservation In India, delivered by the eminent Conservation Architect, Abha Narain Lambah. With a practice spanning 26 years and across India, Abha shall present a range of conservation projects from an urban to regional scale, from conserving historic street-scapes, public buildings, religious, educational and institutional buildings to historic homes and palaces. The lecture will trace her journey navigating cultural heritage that is both monumental and non-monumental. The session will be followed by a round of Q&A with the audience members and a free-wheeling discussions among interested enthusiasts briefly.
Light refreshments shall be served after the lecture.
Abha Narain Lambah
Abha Narain Lambah is a practicing Conservation Architect and over the past 26 years, Abha's architectural practice has had a pan India impact, with projects that include award winning conservation of 15th Century temples in Ladakh and Hampi, iconic palaces, forts and caravansarais in Rajasthan, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab. She has worked on conservation of the Mughal garden of Shalimar Bagh Kashmir, urban and regional conservation in Kancheepuram and Shekhawati, Streetscape projects in Hyderabad, Amritsar, Mumbai, Vadnagar and conserving colonial heritage across India. The practice has won 13 UNESCO Asia Pacific Awards for heritage conservation and is the largest architectural conservation practice in South Asia. Abha has been a consultant to ICCROM, Global Heritage Fund, World Monuments Fund and has served on the heritage committees of both Delhi and Mumbai.
Abha has authored and edited a range of books including "Punjab: Land of the Five Rivers", “Architecture of the Indian Sultanates”, “Custodians of India’s Heritage: 150 years of the Archaeological Survey of India” and “Shekhawati: Land of the Merchant Princes” for MARG Publications. She has authored a range of books on Mumbai including the "The Victorian & Art Deco Ensemble of Mumbai" and prepared the successful nomination to inscribe the Mumbai's Art Deco & Victorian ensemble as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. She has advised on museum design for Indian Museum Kolkata, CSMVS Museum and Mani Bhavan in Mumbai, Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum and Nehru Memorial Library & Museum in Delhi, Bharatpur Museum, Swaraj Bhavan and Anand Bhavan Allahabad, Chowmahalla Palace Hyderabad, Jaivilas Palace Gwalior and Lal Bagh Palace Museum in Indore.
She is a recipient of the Architect of the Year Award 2019 Architectural Digest, Architect of the Year Award CNBC Awaaz 2017, Eisenhower Fellowship, Charles Wallace Fellowship (U.K.) and Sanskriti Award. Her firm has been included in the AD100 Architects List for over a decade; has been featured on the International Works of Wonder (The WoW List) of 20 projects by Architectural Digest USA and by India Today Magazine among the Top 100 Women Leaders of India 2023
