In this first edition of CQ Workshops, designer Sahiba Madan & designer Amardeep Behl introduce us to how they visualise their memories into engaging imageries, with Alchemy of Memories, Virasat-e-Khalsa and more. The workshop explores the idea of storytelling through memories. Participants are given materials and colours to cut, paste, sketch and piece together stories from their imagination under the guidance of Amardeep and Sahiba.

The first karigar, Sahiba Madan, studied architecture from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture for 5 years and worked full-time as an architect for nearly 2 years. In her final year, she conducted an intensive research study on traditional building crafts of India and hand illustrated a series of postcards for it. These in turn, inspired KalakaariHaath.
KalakaariHaath, meaning ‘the skilled hands’, is an exploration of architecture, design and illustration. The designs and creatives are inspired from traditional handicrafts of India among many other things.
Amardeep Behl
Amardeep Behl has been passionately involved in finding expression and deeper meaning in working with space by merging various media like architecture, graphic design, industrial design, and audio-visual and digital multimedia, into a common language to be able to create emotive, storytelling experiences.
His 25 years of experience has led Amar to consciously develop a new language of design that makes the spaces he works in, into narrative spaces. Virasat-e-Khalsa in Anandpur Sahib, is a prime example of a space devoted to telling the story of the Sikh peoples drawing 70 lakh visitors since its inauguration in 2011. Other patently successful instances of Amar and Design Habit’s work in narrative museums are ‘Darshan’, the museum dedicated to Sadhu Vaswani, the Sindhi saint in Pune, and ‘The Journey’, the DS Group’s corporate museum in their offices in Noida.
