Dastan-e-Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh explores the revolutionary figure of Bhagat Singh and his notion of Freedom. The dastan delves deep into Bhagat Singh’s life and shifts the focus from his celebrated sacrifice to his writings and underlines the political vision and ideas behind the martyrdom.

The workshop will have an overview about Dastangoi, the process as well as showcasing the 'Dastan-e-Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh' performance followed by audience interaction.

About the facilitator:

SEAIC (Storytelling Education and Arts India Council) is a Pan India Storytelling Collective with the vision of up-skilling storytellers as well as celebrating the rich cultural heritage of India. As part of its multiple Community-building initiatives, SEAIC bring Dastangoi which is the art of storytelling that developed around the stories of valour and adventures of Amir Hamza, an Arab hero, a thousand years ago. These stories became popular when they entered the Urdu canon and the art form as reached its zenith in the 19th century North India. But with the demise of Mir Baqar Ali, the last known exponent of the art form, in 1928, the form also died with him. The modern revival is an effort of two gentlemen, SR Faruqi, the noted Urdu litterateur, and Mahmood Farooqui, who conceived the modern format of the art form. This piece is directed by Mahmood Farooqui, written by Annie Farooqui and performed by Nusrat Farooqui & Annie Farooqui.
