About the Event
Explore the tribal life here in Jawahar. This unique hill station is about 145 kilometres from Mumbai. The area is a major tribal kingdom of Maharashtra. This tranquil hill station in the lap of the Sahyadris is one of the lesser known, and therefore quiet hill stations near Mumbai. So, get your much-needed peace and break from the city’s chaos at Jawahar. We promise you that the cool breeze along the way and the densely forested slopes, will help you calm your senses.
What’s more? The gorgeous waterfall is perfect to take a dip or dive. You can also turn it into your personal waterbed, and simply let go of yourself.
Of course, we are not leaving the place without meeting our local artists. The Warli tribes, which is also known for their Warli Art, have opened their doors and are happy to take you through the tradition of this age-old art form.
Come, learn the history of Warli Art, and come back home with an exclusive Warli souvenir made by you. Over the years, the locals of Jawahar have further explored their creativity. Now, the tribes are a pro at ‘paper mache’. They make amazing artefacts, and are excited to share their learning. They are happy to share the tricks, so you can give your hidden talent a chance and make your own paper mache products.
Activities in Jawahar:
Warli Art Workshop: Jawahar is home to the Warli tribes. These artists have been working on this art for generations. Warli paintings, traditionally made of rice paste, adorn many an adivasi hut in Jawahar. These artists are happy to extend this art by teaching you a trick or two on Warli.
Papier Mache Workshop: Learn the process of this art form. The artists will take you through the process of papier mache right from scratch.
Participate in the traditional Tarpa Dance: Be part of this humble and innocent performance, where the dancers narrate a story through Warli Tarpa dance.
