Once again its that time of the year when the heat has not escaped yet and the light showers have dampened the earth. This summer come and experience a magical night, a natural phenomenon where billions of fireflies swarm the forests around Pune and one such location is Bhandaradara (170 km away).Just before the monsoon the warm temperature makes it perfect for these nocturnal beetles to come out and flash their light to find the perfect mate with responding blinking light signals.

Imagine thousands of them lighting up the forest with rice grain size bulbs blinking all around you. Great opportunity for photographers, nature lovers, adventure seekers and offbeat travelers.

Location info: We will be visiting a forest area adjoining Bhandardara dam. This region is surrounded by some of the most beautiful trekking destinations such as Mount Kalsubai (highest peak in Maharashtra – 5400 ft), Harishchandragad and Ratngad. One such great trekking site is Sandhan Valley, a deep gorge formed in rocks due to water currents. We will be bouldering down the narrow valley with rock walls of the canyon on both sides and returning back to the base camp at Samrad village.
