About the Event
Faraway originals presents a showcase of four short films from across the country and a discussion with the filmmakers who made them.
Faraway originals is a collective of storytellers from all walks of life. It is a collection of stories and voices and frames. It is the thought that the idea of faraway is not just an unreachable place, but it could also be a person , a desire, a dream that could seconds or years to reach, but is always one step away.
A letter from India
In Mattancherry, a place that is 5 square km give or take, a stone's throw away from Fort Kochi in Kerala, there live 39 communities from all around the country, and a few from across the high seas, who have resided together, side by side, for over 500 years. They came here for different reasons, in different times, but they all stayed for the collective reality that was far better than any dream could convey. This is the story of Mattancherry, a place where the idea of India comes alive like no place else.
Ten thousand
This film charts the life of a young Kalaripayattu master while describing the meaning behind its fundamental movement and intricate philosophy. In this film, we explore the changing motivations of the student, who comes from a place that has no association with Kalaripayattu or so he believed for the longest time. As we follow his discoveries and journey over the course of 8 years, we also see his trials and tribulations from the perspective of his Guru, his teacher, his mentor; who with time, slowly unveils his vision for his student. A vision that the student still isn't aware of, a vision that is first proclaimed through this film.
The boy who saw more
The boy who saw more follows Nordan, a ladakhi teenager as he explores his homeland. Although Ladakh is revered for her majestic mountains , her great blue lakes and mighty rivers, Nordan shows us that there is more. That in places and spaces we often overlook, there are stories unfolding, just as incredible as the big wonders.
Sacred
From the stormy wilderness of the Western Ghats, Faraway Originals and Sanctuary Foundation are proud to bring to you, 'Sacred'. The story of Malhar Indulkar, Sanctuary Mud On Boots Project Leader. 'Sacred' is the first of many portraits of incredible women and men out in our forests, protecting our wild country.
