About the Event
Since the closure of our regular classes due to the coronavirus outbreak, We at 'The Craftsutra' would like to offer a series of FREE online live classes to you. Join us on this creative journey and explore various Art & Craft sessions at home.
Aug 17: Topic - Aboriginal Dot Mandala painting
Dot Painting is done by making dots of various sizes with shades of colors to create patterns using simple tools.
Workshop flow:
This workshop is beginner friendly and is totally fine if you've never held a paint brush or you can't draw/ paint. We'll have a small briefing about the history and technique of making mandalas, and then we'll move on to creating our mandala's step by step. We'll first practice on plain sheets of paper and make mandalas using acrylic colours. Tools like pencil, tooth pick, ear-nuds, matchstick will help you make dots with different sizes. The tool is then dipped in colours and used on paper or on canvas, plates or another surface.
Material required:
Any flat surface (canvas, thick paper, old CD) , Colors –any liquid consistency paint (acrylic, fabric colors), Tools to create dots –tooth pick, earbuds, matchstick, ice-cream stick or basically round stick with flat surface, small cup of water, tissue paper or rough cloth, pencil, ruler, eraser.
Aug 24: Topic - Yarn Mandala:
Mandala is an unrestricted expression of creativity. a symbolic representation of the universe, often sacred and based on a circle. While our hands weave and braid, our brains remains focused and engaged on the repetitive movement and details of the craft makes it a zenlike experience. Participants will learn an eight sides Yarn Mandala.
Workshop flow:
- Introduce the art form - Mandala Weaving is inspired from an ancient handcraft from diverse indigenous tribes of America
- Demonstrating the process consists of weaving vibrant colors of yarn upon wood sticks to form a concentric design
- Participants will learn how to weave a 4 sided as well as an 8 sided mandala
- Step by step weaving a Mandala originating from the center
- Enabling self expression and creativity development due to the direct contact with the colors, shapes and patterns.
- Participants will learn how to become absolutely involved and experience a state of flow which will be a healthy ground for self exploration and mindfulness.
Material required–
Colorful Yarn/wool, Bamboo sticks (Any stick/ skewers/ bamboo sticks, ice-cream sticks or even pencil), a pair of scissors.
Aug 31 : Topic - Mandala Coffee painting:
For everyone fascinated by art or even for those who just love coffee, signing up for this experience would be a great idea. From abstracts, graphics, and landscapes to figurines, this workshop will show you how coffee can be used to create anything you desire.
We will cover everything from discussing a brief history of coffee painting to how to create an amazing mandala using Coffee. Don't worry, there will be a pro-coffee artist to guide you through it all.
Workshop flow:
You will learn how to make fabulous compositions with just coffee and water on cartridge sheets, a brief history of coffee paint, types of coffees and their impact on the texture/color while painting. Our art buddy will guide you on how to achieve light and dark shade on a limited spectrum while discussing the various possibilities of sepia-toned artworks.
- Basics of painting using Coffee
- Creating different tones and shading
- Techniques such as wet-on-wet, pull in, layering
- Basics of drawing a Mandala
After the session you will have a Mandala painting with you which would have created and loads of inspiration.

Coffee, brushes, paper, compass, pencil, water
Sep 7: Topic - Madhubani painting:
In this workshop, Madhubani art form and its different methods will be explained in detail.The Traditional style of Madhubani painting will be taught in the class on an A4 size paper.
Workshop Details:
- History of Mithila painting
- Learning popular motif and borders
- Creating a beautiful Madhubani painting
Material required:
Pen/pencil, scale, eraser, colors (any- poster colors, watercolors,acrylics or even sketch pens), brushes and scissors. Participants will be able to make a Madhubani card.
