About the Event
Ghalib in New Delhi (Hindi Comedy) is India’s Longest Running Comedy being performed all over India and abroad since 1997.
With 491 shows to its credit, it is an extremely funny account of the re birth of Mirza Ghalib in the 21st century India –from his second birth at the Bus Adda of Delhi to staying with a University Student from Patna to dealing with a Punjaban Land Lady to becoming a Page – 3 celebrity.
The play features some of the prominent actors of the country; including Himanshu Srivastava, Yashraj Malik, Dr M Sayeed Alam etc., with Dr Alam essaying the all important role of Mirza Ghalib. It has been written and directed by Dr M Sayeed Alam, reputed for his penchant for Humorous, Historical and Historic plays.
Last but not the least, the play is produced by Pierrot’s Troupe - the theater company credited with giving many new, original and entertaining productions to Hindi, Urdu and English Theatre: Ghalib In New Delhi, Maulana Azad, Big B, Ghalib, K L Saigal, Cut…Cut…Cut, Sons of Babur, Ghalib Ke Khat, A Private Affair, Shah Jahan –O- Mumtaz, Sir Iqbal, Pakistan Aur Alzheimer’s, To Gandhi Ji With Spelling Mistakes, Raja Nahar Singh, Dagh Dehlvi, Mohan Se Mahatma, The Tale Of Quarles etc.

About the Artists
Dr M Sayeed Alam – Dr M Sayeed Alam is an active theatre practitioner in the capacities of Writer, Director and Actor since 1994. Ever since, he has performed in more than 1,500 shows of about 40 plays. He is acknowledged in particular for giving many original plays to Hindi and Urdu Theatre. His plays have been performed widely in India and abroad. His prominent works on stage include: Ghalib In New Delhi, K L Saigal, Maulana Azad, Cut...Cut...Cut, Big B, Ghalib, Lal Qile Ka Aakhri Mushaera, Ghalib Ke Khat, Sons of Babur, A Private Affair, Sir Iqbal, Pakistan Aur Alzheimer’s, Shah Jahan – o -Mumtaz, Tumko Chahoon, Chacha Chchakkan In Action, Mohan Se Mahatma, Sir Iqbal. Modern Art 2000, Pollution Hazir Ho, Mai Abu Salem Hun, The Tale of Quarles etc.
Himanshu Srivastava – Himanshu Srivastava is a senior and multi talented actor of Pierrot’s Troupe. He in particular is admired for his apt portrayal of a Bengali student in the famous play Sons of Babur. Besides, he has also played famous poet Maulana Hali in Ghalib and Agha Jan Aish in Lal Quile Ka aakhri Mushaera. Ghalib Ke Khat, Cut..Cut...Cut, Shah Jahan-o-Mumraz, Maulana Azad ki Yaad Mein are also his prominent works on stage.
Yasraj Malik – Yashraj Malik has earned accolades for portraying the legendary singer-actor K L Saigal in the play K L Saigal for the fact that he does not only sing and act like Saigal, but also looks like him. However, this is not to deny his appearance in many more memorable roles in good number of plays like Raja Nahar Singh, Ghalib In New Delhi, Sons of Babur, Lal Quile Ka Aakhri Mushaera, Ghalib, Ghalib Ke Khat, A Private Affair, etc.
Manish Singh – Manish Singh is a senior actor of Pierrot’s Troupe, known for his penchant for portraying comic as well as intense characters with equal ease and aplomb: He is specially acclaimed for his spoof on Pierrot’s Troupe’s writer-director Dr Alam in Cut...Cut...Cut..... His other noteworthy performances include Ghalib In New Delhi, A Private Affair, Raja Naha Singh, Ghalib Ke Khat, Sons of Babur, Ghalib, Lal Quile Ka Aakhri Mushaera etc.
Jaskiran Chopra – Jaskiran Chopra has started her acting career quite late in her life i.e. in her 60s, but has excelled as an actress of repute in a very short span of time. Her portrayal of Mirza Ghalib’s wife (Umrao Begum) in Ghalib Ke Khat has won plaudit from critics and audiences alike. Equally memorable has been her portrayal of a middle aged Dhoban in Chacha Chchakkan In Action. And no less recognition has her acting prowess received in the plays like Cut... Cut...Cut, K L Saigal etc.
Gyanesh Sharma – Gyanesh Sharma is a budding artist who has impressed all and sundry with his stunning performances in plays like K L Saigal, Babur Ki Aulaad and Mohan Se Mahatma.
Shiva Sood – Shiva Sood is a young man in his early 20s. But, by sheer hard work and immense talent, he has been able to perform with ease and aplomb many difficult roles in plays like Sons of Babur, Lal Quile Ka Aakhri Mushaera and Mohan Se Mahatma.
Bhoomi Nighat Siraj – Bhoomi Siraj is a media personality. She has earlier dabbled into film making, publication and poetry writing. This is her second brush with theatre with The Tale of Quarles being her first production.
Vineet Shrivastava – Vineet Shrivastava is relatively a new member of Pierrot’s Troupe with the popular play Ghalib In New Delhi being his first play as actor. So far he has been impressive and dedicated, destined to play a long innings.
