Betrayal charts a compelling seven-year romance, captured in reverse chronological order. The play was first produced by the National Theatre in 1978, followed by the Broadway premiere a year later. The most recent Broadway revival appeared in 2019.

Betrayal explores the story of two adulterous lovers, Emma and Jerry. They meet two years after the end of the affair. Through the journey of the scenes, we are taken back in time to explore the various states of the affair and are introduced to Emma’s husband, Robert, who is also Jerry’s best friend.

Taking us on a journey of marital infidelity, duplicity and self-deception, at the centre of “Betrayal” is a portrait of a marriage and its corrosive secrets. This classic dramatic exposé of a love triangle takes us into a world that, while glorifying love, debases its very foundations.
