About the Event
JSTJR
JSTJR’s music is best represented by imagery and emotion ratherthan derivative subgenres and labels. Walk into the most thumping
nightclubs and sweaty, wall-shaking basements from Lisbon to Los Angeles to Lima and you’ll understand the 26-year- old producer’s global sound that has earned him official releases on dance music’s top labels including Mad Decent, Fool’s Gold, SMOG, and most recently Insomniac/Interscope Records.
Hailed as the US ambassador of Buraka Som Sistema’s zouk bass movement in America, the New England native has forged a love for regional sounds from around the world with his inherent tendencies for hip hop and experimental electronic production. This unique, hybrid and inclusive approach to dance music in a growingly homogenous market has earned him nods from an elite group of producers including Skrillex, A-Trak, and Diplo – the last of whom JSTJR worked with directly as a credited artist on the Major Lazer’s album Peace Is The Mission.
His latest project Never Squad Down featuring the talents of Uniiqu3 & Ma-Less is currently making waves across the country as JSTJR and his branded club night, "Plugged In" pop off in cities like LA, Austin, and Miami.
GURBAX
Kunaal Gurbaxani aka GURBAX is definitely one of the freshest DJ/producers to watch out for in the Indian bass music scene. From metal-head to bass-head, his journey started in the city of Bengaluru where he played guitar in punk rock and thrash metal bands. Moving to Atlanta for college was like a blessing for him since it was there that he discovered his love for bass-music. “It really was an easy transition. They both encompassed my love for heavy music. However, I never really related to the metal culture of angst and destruction. With the bass scene, on the other hand, it was more than just the music – there was a sense of family in the underground culture of pure energy, love and happiness that really resonated with me and drew me in”. Now, a self-taught DJ and Ableton- certified producer from the Dubspot School of Music Production in New York City, he has played shows in and around Atlanta and NYC including a recent performance at Havana Club (rated the #1 nightclub in Atlanta) and is now looking to catalyze the bass music movement in India. In a short span of 3 years since moving back, he has managed to play all across the Indian sub-continent, including cities like Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Assam, Orissa, Goa and Coorg. As well as share the stage with a range of well-reputed artists such as Steve Aoki, Marshmello, NGHTMRE, Slander, Herobust, David Satori (Beats Antique), Christina Novelli, Hang Massive, GANZ and GAUDI to name a few
