D'Leela brings an engaging art workshop using Lippan craft techniques to create a unique and modern Mandala design

This workshop is meant for participants above the age of 16 and does not require any prior art and craft experience.

By the end of the workshop, you will be pleasantly surprised at your capability of creating such a brilliant piece of art. An experience you cannot miss!

A Mandala (Sanskrit for "circle") is a geometric design that represents different aspects of the universe. It is a symbol of prayer and instrument of meditation, especially in Hindu and Buddhist cultures. The Mandala is considered a highly spiritual symbol. The belief is that by entering the mandala and proceeding towards its center, you are guided through the cosmic process of transforming the external universe and the universe within you, from one of suffering into one of joy and happiness.

Lippan is an artform from Kutch, Gujarat. Traditionally, Lippan is made as murals on walls, using a mixture of local materials like clay, mud, and camel/cow dung. It is also known as Chittar Kaam, and along with being an appealing piece of art, is also known to keep the interiors cool. Modern Lippan craft involves mud art embellished with mirror work and can be done in any shape size and manner. The essence of Lippan is its natural untamed beauty. It gives an earthy rural feel unlike no other form of art.

The Workshop will cover:

1.    Introduction to the craft

2.    Different techniques of mural-making

3.    Variety of mandala designs

The participant will be provided with all necessary materials.
