HIGHLIGHTS OF THE HORNBILL FESTIVAL 2023 TRIP DETAILS FROM DIMAPUR

Day 1 :- Guwahati - Dimapur (01st December )

• Upon your arrival in Guwahati in the evening, please proceed to the designated location. You will receive further details closer to your date of arrival. This is where you will meet your fellow travelers for the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland, and your journey officially begins.

• Our team will provide you with a briefing of the itinerary, and you'll have the opportunity to socialize with your fellow travelers. You can also gather any necessary supplies for the trip. Get ready for an exciting train journey like no other, which we'll elaborate on later.

• In the evening, board the overnight train from Guwahati, which will take you to Dimapur in Nagaland.

Day 2 :- Hornbill Festival Kisama (02nd December)

• In the morning, you will arrive at Dimapur. 

• For those joining us from Dimapur Airport, you can do so this morning.

• From Dimapur, we will drive to Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, where the incredible Hornbill Festival is held annually from December 1st to 10th.

• Upon arrival, you'll check in at your hotel or homestay and have some leisure time. The rest of the day will be dedicated to immersing yourself in the rich culture and traditions on display at the festival in Naga Heritage Village.

• The festival brings together all of Nagaland’s major tribes and showcases traditional arts, dances, folk songs, and games. This cultural extravaganza takes place amid meticulously recreated tribal huts, adorned with wood carvings and resonating with the rhythms of hollow log drums, which are played in a haunting symphony as the day concludes. The festivities kick off with opening speeches at 2 pm, followed by a series of captivating performances. You'll also find numerous handicraft and food stalls, offering a chance to sample some delightful rice beer.

• In the evening, the highlight is the Hornbill National Rock Concert, where bands from across the country come to compete. Later, we will return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay in Kohima or Kisama.

Day 3 :- Khonoma Village ( 03rd December )

• After breakfast, you will embark on a scenic drive to Khonoma Village, located just outside of Kohima and home to the Angami tribe.

• Khonoma is a small village that stands as a testament to Nagaland's rich heritage and cultural legacy. This Angami tribe village holds great significance in Nagaland's history, as it was the dwelling place of the valiant warriors who fiercely defended their homeland against invaders. The traditional entrance gate of Khonoma stands as a symbol of the villagers' unwavering sacrifice to safeguard their land from foreign intruders.

• Throughout the village, you will find several memorials erected to honor the memory of those brave fighters who sacrificed their lives for the betterment of Khonoma.

• In the evening, you will return to Kohima / Kisama and relax at the homestay. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4 :- Dzukou Valley (04th December)

• Today, we will commence our journey to the village of Viswema, from where we'll embark on a drive along a rugged path to reach the starting point of the trek leading to the Dzukou Valley. The initial segment of the trek is relatively steep and may take between 1 to 2 hours to reach the peak. Subsequently, it's another 5-6 kilometers to reach the base point.

• For tonight, you'll be accommodated in mountain huts. Please note that the facilities here are basic, as we'll be staying in the heart of the valley. If you're new to hiking, this could be an excellent place to start. Be prepared for an extraordinary night under the open sky, with the night-time temperature easily dropping below 5 degrees Celsius.

• After taking in the breathtaking beauty of the valley, we will retire early for the night, as we have an eventful day ahead.

• Overnight stay in Dzukou Valley in Camps / Huts.

Day 5 :- Dzukou - Kohima ( 05th December )

• Start your day by taking a leisurely walk down into the valley, where you'll discover a charming frozen stream nestled amidst lush greenery. You can also explore the nearby caves and rock formations before returning to Kohima.

• After your valley adventure, return to Kohima and relax at the homestay, where you can unwind with a soothing hot bath.

• In the evening, venture out to the night carnival. Kohima's streets come alive with vibrant lights, and numerous local families set up stalls offering a wide variety of treats, from mouthwatering street food to face painting, refreshing juices, and even traditional local drinks.

Day 6 :- Kohima - Dimapur / Guwahati (06th December )

• How can a trip to Kohima not have a visit to the WW2 Memorial. Today we will spend about an hour in Garrisons hill learning the history of this city - about Japanese soldiers, British and the Indians who served under british during the war.

• Post sightseeing of Kohima we will drive towards Dimapur (One can board a Direct flight from here to Delhi or your base city)

• Board Evening train for an overnight journey to Guwahati.

• We will Reach Guwahati by next morning with lots of memories to cherish forever.

Day 07 :- Reach Guwahati (7th December) 

• Wake up in Guwahati and bid farewell to your newfound family. We know of reunions that happen occasionally in different parts of the country.

• Fun Fact - A couple that met on our trip a few years back even ended up getting married. So don’t lose heart.

• Now it's time to board your flights / trains for your onwards journey towards your home city.

• Get emotional as the trip is about to end. With GIC, it’s always the beginning and not the end.
