About the Event
In the early 20th century, the Bombay Government appointed George Wittet as Consulting Architect in 1908 to design a business hub on a marshland from the excavated seabed material that emerged after the construction of the Alexandra Dock. Step back in time and discover how the Bombay Government's visionary approach to urban planning led to the creation of Ballard Estate, a testament to sustainable development.
Join us on a fascinating heritage trail that delves into the rich history of Ballard Estate, a pioneering example of sustainable urban planning. Explore iconic landmarks like the Port Trust Offices, New Customs House, and Grand Hotel, and visit the century-old Prince of Wales Seamen's Club and end with a typical Old Bombay ritual, of chai and bun maska.
Please note: The meeting point will be Brittania Company and Restaurant at Ballard Estate.
