Objective: You'll be making lamps and light art by combining techniques of origami, laser-cutting and basic electronics and lighting.

Bringing together the ancient art of origami and cutting edge (pun intended) laser cutting tech, you will create elegant paper structures that are both, simple and yet complex. Then, delve into some electronics and use high power LEDs to light everything up!

The Maker's Asylum will begin the workshop with basic paper-folding for abstract shapes, and analyze fold patterns. Then, participants will be taught software to create more complex and more precise patterns, and be trained on the laser-cutter to bring those patterns onto paper. After that, you will go through soldering and assembling bright, high-power LEDs, heat-sinks and other electronic bits-and-pieces to create the light source. Finally, participants get to lay out, cut and assemble their own piece with any guidance required.
