The best part of receiving a gift is that you get to unwrap it! The wrapping is what makes an ordinary 'thing’ a gesture of love, and presents one a chance to personalize, decorate, and add that little bit of magic to a store-bought object. Beautiful and enticing wrapping is no small feat though, but an art in itself. If you are no expert, worry not. Origata is here to save the day.
Simply put, Origata is the ancient Japanese art of gift wrapping. Origata is considered to be one of the most precious and well-established arts of Japan. The technique dates back to the 14th Century and it traditionally involves using paper flowers and ribbons. Origata differs from regular gift wrapping with its unique method of only partly concealing the gift inside. In Japan, it was considered impolite to open a gift in front of the gift giver, but Origata let one take a peek! Its real beauty, however, lies in its folds. Different folds convey different feelings and have their own silent language.
Here's how you can learn it! Open Bracket presents a fold in time- an Origata workshop, a 3-hour session where participants will learn to expertly fold the paper in Origata styles like Floral, Fan, Kimono and a lot more. Surprise your loved ones with that extra bit of effort, because, in the end, it's the gesture that counts.
Please Note: It is advised that all participants carry a scissor and a regular one-litre bottle (Preferably a wine bottle or any glass bottle) along with them for the workshop in order to learn a bottle gift wrapping technique.
