Red Bull Presents Antariksha Sanchar, a dance opera inspired by the adventures of South Indian math genius S. Ramanujan, scored by a Carnatic-Electronic ensemble and accompanied by stunning visuals from India’s first cultural adventure videogame.
Internationally renowned Bharatnatyam exponent Jayalakshmi Eshwar heads the dance troupe, while Avinash Kumar, is the visual genius behind the videogame and the visuals are developed by his team at Quicksand Studios and Hyderabad-based music producer MSR Murthy heads the music troupe. The show has been over a year in the making, bringing together the world of videogames, dance, Carnatic & electronic music like never before.
Originally starting out as a Bharatanatyam production of the same name in 2010 by Jayalakshmi Eshwar, Antariksha Sanchar was expanded into a dance production with visuals, which became an inspiration for the video game – produced by Quicksand Studio – scheduled for release in November 2019.
The narrative of the dance opera takes the audience on a multisensory, gripping journey to outer space, with the protagonist Ramanujan using the power of his dreams to navigate the challenges presented to him. The show narrative expands on mythological references to flight in Indian scriptures and popular culture.
The dance opera is set to a unique Carnatic-electronic take on classic ragas with an ensemble of classical musicians, which also features modern technologies including drum machines and synthesizers.
If some day in the future, if someone were to study the evolution of electronic music in Hyderabad, Murthovic’s contribution as one of the chief influencers will never go unnoticed. His relentless passion has seen him evolve his style of electronic music which is gravitated towards both indian and western music ideologies and practices. Currently he is working on his maiden solo album due to be out later this year and also is involved in many sound design projects, which include ad films, games and background scores.
