About the Event
The Afterlife of Archives
Date: 20 Nov 24
Time: 1.00pm - 5.00pm
Venue: KNMA Noida
The workshop invites participants to explore the narrative possibilities offered by archival materials from across Asia, ranging from reproductions of artwork documentation, newspaper clippings, photographs, exhibition catalogues, ephemera, and more. It draws on art historian Aby Warburg’s project Mnemosyne Atlas, which consisted of organising panels of myriad images from across geographies and time under thematic categories. Allowing us to view images in non-linear ways and signpost unexpected connections, Warburg’s Atlas has also inspired several artistic projects, including those that respond to recent shifts in internet culture. Deploying some of the methodological possibilities offered by these projects, the workshop hopes to elicit a range of immediate and synoptic insights into modern and contemporary art histories of Asia.
Who Can Join?
This workshop is open to interested and committed participants aged 18+. Limited seats, so register soon!
