Sukanya and Tejas invite you to their homes for an intimate baithak and dinner. In an effort to bring classical music closer to people, and to encourage artists in their imaginative pursuits; we are opening up our living room for monthly classical concerts.
Join us as we explore the intricacies of classical music together, and sometimes simply lose ourselves to the flow of the music. Our living room is cosy, and has just enough space for everyone to be able to enjoy the music and compare notes with each other from time to time. Feel free to ask questions and express your pleasure as the artist takes you on his journey.
Our artist of the month, Shri Ravinder Rajput is an emerging flautist. Shri Rajput was introduced to the flute at a tender age and continues to hone his art under the tutelage of his guru Shri Kailash Sharma. A keen performer, Shri Rajput has performed at various prestigious festivals across India and abroad, and has been recognised by the Sahitya Kala Parishad for his skills. Ravinder will be accompanied on the tabla by Shri Shambhu Nath Bhattcharjee, a percussionist par excellence who dabbles both in classical music as well as contemporary forms. Shri Bhattacharjee, a disciple of the tabla maestro Shri Varun Debnath has performed world wide with the likes of Pt. Madhup Mudgal and Pt. Budhaditya Mukherjee, and has been equally involved with the rock band Parikrama. A familiar face at our concerts (many would recognise him and his extraordinary performance from our baithak last September), he continues to spur us on with his constant support.
Absolutely not! Anybody who appreciates music and is willing to listen, is welcome to the concert. Our aim is to make the genre more accessible to everyone and share our love for it. During the course of the concert we will be happy to help you understand and appreciate the performance.
2. What is the format of the program?
Keeping in mind the homely atmosphere, we invite only one artist per program. This way, the performer of the day has complete freedom to choose her pieces and improvise. The program will start with short introduction to the artist and the genre. This will be followed by an hour long performance and dinner.
3. How long will the performance last?
Indian classical music is largely performed extempore, based only on a loose structure that helps the artist lay out her path. You can expect the performance to last about an hour, give or take a few minutes as inspiration permits.
4. What kind of food would be served for dinner?
We would love to share a little piece of our home with you. All food served at the event will be cooked by us from scratch, so expect a hearty home made meal. In order to accommodate everyone and their tastes, we will only be serving vegetarian food - typically two mains and a side dish.
