A Little Bit About Us:
Who are we?
The Sai Aswini Intiative is a social startup created that aims to venture into social enterprises through a creative lens in order to effect social change. It was started by three individuals, Pratyusha, Lakshmi, and Anusha, as a means to solving specific problems noticed in the city of Bangalore. Having witnessed first hand, a lack of inclusivity in spaces for differently abled, neurodivergent, and queer folks, we, a family of three women decided to come together to create impact - but not just any impact, and certainly not just by any means - but through a creative, interdisciplinary, and a feminist lens.
What do we do?
At SAI, we explore creative, artistic, and innovative pathways to problem-solve for mental health awareness and social issues , while simultaneously building communities, advocating for social and mental-health issues, and educating and empowering specific vulnerable individuals and their micro-communities to pursue the path of change-making, by making these pathways accessible to them. We believe in making creativity and art accessible for all, as our ultimate mission.
How do we do it?
Through its three functioning work areas (research & advocacy, education & knowledge building, and community and capacity building), SAI aims to venture into research, advocacy, education, and community and capacity building. We believe that a combination of art events for social change, campaigns, online content creation, and community engagement, we can make the desired impact in our home city of Bangalore.
A Little Bit About the Event:
Firstly, if you're reading this, congratulations, and welcome! You've taken the very first step towards becoming a writer!
Welcome to SAI's very first writing event, where we explore how we can use writing as a tool to express ourselves, and as a means of resistance to social problems we care about. The agenda and details of the writing workshop can be found below:
Agenda:
- Introductions, Icebreakers, and an Intro to Writing: Where we will be discussing the process of writing, the writing prompt, tips and tricks to get started with writing as a daily practice, and creative ways to do it. The idea behind this workshop is to start small.
- Group Discussions, Huddles, and Collaborations: Understand how we can ideate as a group and individually figure out our own unique writing styles, at the same time!
- Writing for Change: Understanding what it is that you care about in terms of social justice. What kind of change would you like to see in your locality, state, or country? This will be the prompt for the workshop, as we discover writing as a means of resistance: what does that mean? Well, you will be writing against oppressive structures and institutions you feel, perpetrate injustice in our society, and we will help you figure out the best way to do it using vocabulary, and brainstorming tools!
- Understanding How to Publish Your Work: We will provide you with constructive feedback, options and solutions as to how you can in the long run, publish your work, or even create a social media presence that can create awareness, or impact through writing!
Some Details About the Event:
- Bring a smart device to write on - whatever you're comfortable with! (Phones, laptops, and tablets are welcome!)
- A small journal/book + a pen to ideate.
- A beverage to chill with. (Preferably coffee because that helps Writer's Block haha)
We look forward to having youuu!
P.S: The hostesses of this event are both extensive researchers and published writers, just wanting to build a community of people who care about writing social issues, and can always come together and work with each other on a long-term basis. We intend to create whatsapp and disocord groups for this event, where participants can exchange ideas, and continue their writing journeys having created this community. We truly look forward to hosting you. :)
