MI vs CSK (April 7) - CSK won by 1 wicket
We were in for a treat right from the first match. Thanks to contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya, MI put up 165 on the board. In reply, CSK kept losing wickets and found themselves at 118/8 with 21 balls left thanks to Mayank Markande’s brilliant bowling. Dwayne Bravo then stole the show, scoring 68 off just 30. While he got out in the 19th over, Kedar Jadhav braved injury to score the winning six on the penultimate ball of the match.
SRH vs MI (April 12th) - SRH won by 1 wicket
MI suffered back-to-back heartbreaks in their first two matches of the season. A lacklustre batting effort saw them post just 147 runs. However, despite a great start by SRH, Markande and Bumrah put the brakes on SRH’s scoring by picking up regular wickets. With 10 needed off the last over and just 1 wicket in hand, it was Billy Stanlake who scored a four off the last ball to seal a thrilling win.
CSK vs SRH (April 22nd) - CSK won by 4 runs
Posting an impressive total of 182 on the back of Raina and MSD’s 50s, CSK looked all set for a win after reducing SRH to 71/4. Kane Williamson, however, had different plans as he played of his best T20 knocks ever to get them to sniffing distance of a victory. While he departed in the 18th over, Rashid Khan almost pulled off a miracle as he scored 17 off 4 balls. In the end, SRH fell just short and the viewers were treated to an epic.
DD vs KXIP (April 23rd) - KXIP won by 4 runs
When DD managed to restrict KXIP to just 143 runs, victory seemed to be a near-guarantee on a batting-friendly pitch. The KXIP bowling, however, had other plans. They kept the pressure on throughout the match even as Shreyas Iyer scored a valiant 50. With 5 runs to win off the last ball, Mujeeb outfoxed Iyer and won the game for Punjab by just 4 runs. Low-scoring thrillers are just the best!
RR vs CSK (May 11th) - RR won with 1 ball to spare
CSK seemed to have the upper hand over RR when they scored 176 on a tricky pitch while batting first. However, they didn’t account for Jos Buttler. The Englishman took on the CSK bowlers even as wickets fell around him and accelerated towards the end, smashing everything that came his way. With 12 needed off the final over, Dwayne Bravo conceded just 4 runs off the first 3 balls. Buttler then hit a huge six and followed it up with 2 runs to keep RR’s playoff hopes alive. His knock of 95* will go down in history.
