One of the most exciting things about the 2018 VIVO IPL is the emergence of young talent along with the entrance of experienced players making their bow. Here are 10 players making their debuts this year.
Shimron Hetmyer - 4.2 cr - Royal Challengers Bangalore
After playing some extraordinary knocks for West Indies in the recent past, this left-handed Carribean youngster is expected to add to his team's explosive batting line-up, that includes Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. The Guyanese cricketer had 5 teams getting in a bidding war at the auction. Hetmyer had had a good outing in India, accumulating 259 runs from five games and with a terrific strike rate of 140.
Jonny Bairstow - 2.2 cr - Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Yorkshire batsman is all set to play his first season of IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad after going unsold for the previous seasons. The Englishman has had an outstanding in Test’s and ODI’s for England’s National side, and he possesses an overall strike rate of 125.71 from 22 innings he has played in T20 Internationals till day.
Varun Chakravarthy - 8.4 cr - Kings XI Punjab
The 27-year-old leg-spinner grabbed attention at this year's auction when he became the joint-most expensive buy along with left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat. The Karnataka youngster earned the reputation of being a mystery spinner in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2018, scalping 9 wickets from 10 matches, with an economy rate of 4.7.
Sherfane Rutherford - 2 cr - Delhi Capitals
He is another Carribean cricketer who went for big bucks at the auction. The 20-year-old Windies batter made headlines when he slammed mighty six sixes in a 13-ball 45 for Guyana in the CPL. Rutherford is relatively new to T20 cricket but his numbers are very impressive. The Guyanese middle-order batsman has a strike-rate of 142.50 in T20s and can tonk the ball big.
Joe Denly - 1 cr - Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR snapped up Joe Denly at the auction of IPL 2019. Denly is a useful T20 cricketer and has been a consistent performer in England. Apart from his batting ability, the 32-year-old leg-spinner will be mighty effective on Indian pitches.
Mitchell Santner - 50 lakhs - Chennai Super Kings
After missing IPL 2018 season due to an injury, the left-arm spinner got retained by CSK for the base price. The Kiwi star will be making a debut and could play a crucial role for Chennai if skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni decides to utilise his services.
Anmolpreet Singh - 80 lakhs - Mumbai Indians
The three-time winning team is always looking out for new players who can perform in the league. One such talent they bid for in IPL 2019 was Anmolpreet Singh, the batsman from Punjab. He was part of the India U19 team that made it to the final of the Under-19 World Cup in 2016. Even though Anmolpreet does not have much T20 experience behind him, he comes across as a technically sound batsman and has an impressive List A record.
Oshane Thomas - 1.1 cr - Rajasthan Royals
The tearaway Jaimacan fast bowler made his international debut for West Indies cricket team in October 2018, will be making his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals. The 21-year-old bowls at express speed and has troubled several batsmen till now.
